Track All Member Points Behind the Scenes with Engagement User Control

By Kathleen Simpson posted 12-16-2010 7:41 PM

Since this question comes up regularly on the eGroups, I'm posting a blog entry on the topic.

Are you hoping to track member points (for that rare request) or "pull" a list of gold, etc. top contributor for a contest or reporting stats? Trying making new page(s) for "Most Active" and "Top Contributor"!

I post these pages under Admin > Reports section, based on our HL layout.

Create Page: "Most Active"
Create Content Item: User Control: ws:Engagement
Parameters: ImageMaxWidth="50" ImageMaxHeight="50" NumberToShow="1000" IsContributors="False" ignoreStaff="False" EngagementPeriod="all"

Create Page: "Top Contributors"
Create Content Item: User Control: ws:Engagement
Parameters: ImageMaxWidth="50" ImageMaxHeight="50" NumberToShow="1000" IsContributor="True" ignoreStaff="False" EngagementPeriod="all"

Note

The parameter IsContributors makes the difference. "False" means it counts all activity points. "True" means it doesn't count "lurker" activity points, like "webpage views." See Web Controls or Higher Logic staff for more details.

Other Tips

  • Test out the control's parameters (and see all HUG Top Contributors) under Web Controls
  • Want all your "staff" to see the page: Move the page out of the Admin section, set the page to viewable content/hidden in navigation, and edit security setting to allow the staff security group to view the page.

Send edits and comments my way. -k

If your site is using the CCAdmin microsite to access the administrative functionality, then be sure to create the new pages as children of the Admin menu item on your microsite and do not modify any of the pages on the CCAdmin microsite. Changes to the CCAdmin microsite will be lost when any updates to the CCAdmin microsite are pushed out.
